When I was a staff producer at Immediate Records, this demo had been sent in and, when I heard it, I got really enthusiastic and had an acetate made to play to the heads of the label. I couldn’t get a bite on it.

The band was Martin Raynor and The Secrets from Kidderminster, in the Midlands. It was a song demo written by the vocalist Martin Raynor (aka Clifford T Ward) who later went on to have solo success in the UK in 1973 but with ‘Infatuation’ – he was way ahead of the London and Northern Soul movement on the evidence of this demo.
