A Degree of Murder
Jimmy Page
The Degree of Murder session was at IBC and Brian Jones was totally in charge of everything. I was asked to it and of course I wanted to do whatever I could to help him realise his ideas. It was a magical session and Brian was lovely to work with. As well as playing regular guitar, this was one of the first times I used the violin bow on a session. He asked me to come up with something and I took along my bow just in case. He was thrilled when I played it.
Info
Soundtrack to the 1967 German film Mord und Totschlag (A Degree of Murder), directed by Volker Schlondorff and starring Anita Pallenberg. Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones produced and supervised the session at IBC Studios in London, with conductor Mike Leander. Page contributed guitar, including bowed guitar — one of his earliest uses of the bow technique in a studio session. The multi-track tapes were subsequently lost.
