I’ve been asked on a number of occasions to do a written book, and typical of me, I think of the other side of the coin. And I thought it would be really interesting to present an autobiography with photographs.

The more I thought about it, the more sense it made, because it would cover my career right from being a teenager all the way through to almost yesterday. And I wanted to make it as thorough as possible. That meant trawling through all the files of the photographers who’d taken photographs of, say, the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin, to be able to pull from my personal collection as well.

But having the captions and the annotations taking you through the whole of the journey, just to make it quite complete. It was important to include every milestone along the way, so people have got a real testament of the times.
